PARIS — Cori «Coco» Gauff has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over former U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens in the French Open quarterfinals.
Coco Gauff reached her first Grand Slam semi-final at the French Open on Tuesday when she defeated fellow American Sloane Stephens. Gauff, 18 years old and ranked 23 in the world, triumphed 7-5, 6-2. She will face Italy's 59th-ranked Martina Trevisan for a place in Saturday's championship match.

Five different US players have reached the women's quarter-finals in the last five years, but there has not been an American champion since Serena Williams won her third title in 2015.
