Nigeria’s only representatives at the 2023 African Club Hockey Championships in Malawi, Delta Queens Hockey Club, returned to the country as the third best team of the event. The Nigerians defeated Malawi’s Genetrix 10-0 to finish third in the seven-team event. The coach Ade Jacob-led Delta Queens played six games, won four, drew one and lost one at the championships. Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, who led the team to Malawi, told The Guardian, yesterday, that Delta Queens’ participation in the championships gave the players and their coaches’ opportunity of playing with some top teams in the continent. He commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his prompt attention to issues concerning sports in the state, adding that Delta sports has proven to be the nation’s No 1 in sports. “I also commend our players and coaches for their ability to stand against strong oppositions and coming back with the bronze medal,” Okowa stated.
Nigeria’s only representative at the ongoing 2023 Africa Club Hockey Championships in Malawi, Queens Hockey Club of Asaba, is sure of playing in the final of the tournament.

Nigeria’s representatives, Delta Queens Hockey Club, who lost 3-4 to Ghana in their second match of the on-going 2023 Africa Club Hockey Championships in Malawi, expect to redeem their image when they face hosts, Genetrix team, this afternoon. Before the weekend’s loss to Ghana, Delta Queens thrashed another Malawian team, Capital Braves, 17-0 in their first match.The coach Ade Jacobs-led team, which left Lagos last Wednesday with 18 players, three coaches and other officials, will face another Malawi side, Scorpion Hockey team, on Wednesday before their tie against one of the toughest teams in the tournament, Blazers of Kenya on Thursday. The Kenyan side defeated Genetric of Malawi 13-1 on Saturday in the Championship, which will end on November 26.
