MS Dhoni oozed class as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got IPL 2025 underway with a win against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 'El Clasico' of the tournament. While Dhoni came out to bat only at the very end of CSK's run chase - and did not score a run - it was work behind the stumps that left fans and even his teammates in awe. One such moment came in the 18th over, when Dhoni suggested CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to take a DRS review to dismiss Mitchell Santner. As it turned out, Dhoni's judgment was spot on.
Fifties by Rachin Ravindra (65 not out) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (53) helped Chennai Super Kings kickstart their IPL 2025 campaign with a four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. After Noor Ahmad's 4-18 and Khaleel Ahmed's 3-29 helped CSK restrict MI to 155/9, Gaikwad mixed aggression and timing to hit six fours and three sixes while bringing up his fifty in 22 balls, his fastest half-century in the tournament. Despite wickets falling from the other end, Ravindra held one end firm to hit an unbeaten 45-ball 65, laced with two fours and four sixes, as CSK completed a nervy win. For MI, who have not won their first match of an IPL season since 2012, debutant Vignesh Puthur's spell of 3-32 would be the biggest positive.
Mumbai Indians (MI) look to overcome the absence of captain Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as they take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a blockbuster Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Sunday. Hardik is serving a one-match suspension for slow over rate offences last season, while Bumrah is still nursing a back injury and will miss a few initial games of the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav will lead MI at the Chepauk against fellow five-time champions CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
With their respective leaders switching camps and squads undergoing major overhauls, both Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, under new captains, will be eager to make a strong start to their IPL campaign when they face off in Visakhapatnam on Monday. For a second year running, the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium here will host two home matches for Delhi Capitals. Pant, who had been a Delhi Capitals' player throughout his IPL career and also their captain, left the franchise ahead of the mega auction last year and was snapped up by LSG for a record price of Rs 27 crore.
Forgetting what happened last year, Mumbai Indians will step into the Indian Premier League arena keeping their rich legacy in mind. Being tied with Chennai Super Kings with record five titles, the side will aim to add another feather to its illustrious cap. Last year saw MI finishing at the bottom spot in the ten-team table. The side will aim to put a much better show this time. Before the five-time champions start their IPL 2025 campaign, let's have an in-depth look at their new squad -
