Australia skipper Steve Smith and his team did not have a good outing in the first ODI at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Friday as Team India defeated them by 5 wickets in a low-scoring thriller. India's stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game that saw regular captain Rohit Sharma missing out due to family commitments. For Australia, Mitchell Starc shone with an 81-run knock off 65 balls, but other batters failed to replicate him as the guests were bundled out for 188 runs.
The spotlight will once again be on KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja when India take on Australia in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, with regular captain Rohit Sharma returning to lead the side after missing the opening game in Mumbai. India defeated Australia by five wickets in a low-scoring game at the Wankhede Stadium, with Rahul, who struggled to find form during the Border-Gavaskar series leading to him being dropped for the third and fourth Tests, scoring a patient unbeaten 75 as the hosts cantered home.

Four New Zealand players, including Kane Williamson and Tim Southee, were given go-ahead by the country's cricket board to join their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) teams without taking part in the home white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The quartet of Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner (both Chennai Super Kings) will be released after the second and final Test against Sri Lanka beginning here on Friday so that they are able to join their respective IPL franchises early.
Tom Latham will captain New Zealand in one-day internationals against Sri Lanka with a host of Black Caps stars released to their Indian Premier League clubs. Latham will be skipper for the whiteball matches at Auckland's Eden Park on March 25, Christchurch three days later and Hamilton on March 31. Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner (both Chennai Super Kings) are not available, New Zealand Cricket said.
Tom Latham will lead New Zealand's one-day international team in the three-match series against Sri Lanka later this month with regulars such as Kane Williamson set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), New Zealand Cricket said on Monday.
