HARRISON, N.J.: Lionel Messi scored a dazzling goal in the 89th minute of his Major League Soccer debut, helping Inter Miami beat the New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Saturday night and end an 11-match league winless streak.
Lionel Messi wasn't in the starting XI, yet it was his goal that made all the difference for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer game against New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Messi came off the bench to inspire an incredible solo goal for Inter Miami in the playoffs match, helping his team win 2-0. It was the Argentine maestro, who has already scored a plethora of important goals for the club in other competitions, who finished off a peak Barcelona-style team goal. It was also the first goal for Messi in the regular MLS season.
NEW YORK : Daniil Medvedev has enjoyed the budding rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic like everyone else, but said he hopes to crash their party at the U.S. Open and play the role of disruptor this fortnight.
Inter Miami coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino has hinted that Lionel Messi may not start Saturday's Major League Soccer clash at the New York Red Bulls. Messi has played eight games inside a month for Miami in their triumphant Leagues Cup campaign and Wednesday's US Open Cup semi-final win at Cincinnati. Asked at a press conference whether Messi will play in what will be Miami's first regular season MLS game since the arrival of the Argentine, Martino said no decision had yet been made.
