Kimi Antonelli beats Lewis Hamilton in sprint race at F1’s British Grand Prix

SILVERSTONE: Kimi Antonelli returned to winning ways on Saturday by denying Lewis Hamilton a crowd-pleasing home victory in the sprint race ahead of the British Grand Prix. Hamilton started on pole and held off Antonelli until lap eight of 17, when the Italian swept past with the help of electrical power. “Let’s go! Let’s go!” Antonelli told the team over the radio after taking the win. Lando Norris took third in McLaren’s white-and-green throwback livery after winning a thrilling back-and-forth battle with George Russell and Max Verstappen early on. Antonelli’s first win since last month’s Monaco Grand Prix stretched his Formula 1 standings lead to 43 points over teammate Russell, who was fourth after starting fifth. Russell had been complaining of a “strange” lack of pace in qualifying the day before, a setback after his win at the Austrian Grand Prix last week had boosted the British driver’s title chances. Qualifying is later Saturday for Sunday’s British Grand Prix.

Hamilton gives F1 a piece of his mind over Lego cars

SILVERSTONE, UK: Lewis Hamilton on Thursday said he planned to boycott a Formula One sponsorship stunt involving Lego cars in a parade ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix, his home race. “I’m not going to do it,” the British Ferrari diver said, with a laugh. “It’s the most dangerous part of the weekend!“ All 22 drivers are set to be involved in the stunt, 90 minutes before the race driving replica cars made of 28,000 Lego bricks that will have a maximum speed of 25 kph. Hamilton avoided driving at a previous Lego event in Miami. “I let Charles drive last time and it was just hilarious watching everyone crashing into each other,” said Hamilton.

George Russell snatches pole, Kimi Antonelli fourth for Austria Grand Prix grid

SPIELBERG: George Russell produced a dramatic late and contentious fastest lap in his Mercedes on Saturday to claim pole position ahead of the two Ferraris for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix. The 28-year-old Briton, who had struggled to outpace his team-mate championship leader Kimi Antonelli in Friday’s practice, swept into the prime grid position with a lap in one minute and 06.113 seconds — including a need to lift through a section of waved yellow flags. His lap took him 0.236 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc and 0.295 ahead of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in a sensational conclusion to a closely-fought qualifying session.Italian teenager Antonelli qualified fourth after seeing and obeying the double waved yellow flags on his late flying lap by slowing down after four-time champion Max Verstappen crashed in his Red Bull.“I feel incredible, it was such an amazing lap,” said Russell. “I saw the yellow and did a big lift into the corner.
