Chennai Super Kings succumbed to their third straight defeat of IPL 2022, when they lost to Punjab Kings on Sunday by 54 runs. Chasing a big target of 181 runs to win the match, CSK had a terrible start to their innings and it was only a partnership between Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni that helped the team get past the 100-run mark as CSK were eventually bowled out for 126.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has made the cricketing world take notice of the talent possessed by 35-year-old Sheldon Jackson, not only as a batter but also as a wicketkeeper. Despite some ordinary batting performances so far in IPL 2022, Jackson has been able to impress everyone with his lightning fast glovework behind the stumps. Such has been his impact that one of his admirers also include former wicketkeeper-batter and current head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise, Brendon McCullum. The former New Zealand captain seemed quite impressed by Jackson's technique with the bat and glovework and even likened his skills to that of MS Dhoni and Andre Russell.
Ravindra Jadeja is feeling the heat at the start of his captaincy stint at CSK but he is glad to have the cool head of MS Dhoni to rely upon in high pressure situations, even allowing him to field outside the circle. The defending champions have lost all three of their matches this season. Less than a week before the IPL opener on March 26, Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Jadeja.
Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene and current batting star Bhanuka Rajapaksa have expressed their anguish over the ongoing turmoil in the country. Both Jaywardene and Rajapaksa, currently involved in the ongoing IPL 2022, took to Twitter to show solidarity with their countrymen. Sri Lanka is in the grip of an unprecedented shortage of food, fuel and other essentials -- along with record inflation and crippling power cuts with no sign of an end to the economic woes. Crisis-hit Sri Lanka's cabinet resigned en masse from their positions at a late-night meeting Sunday, the education minister said, as anti-government protests escalated despite curfews.
Punjab Kings' (PBKS) batter Shikhar Dhawan was all praise for debutant Vaibhav Arora who dismantled the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) top order on Sunday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Arora returned with impressive figures of 2 for 21 from his four overs here at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as PBKS bounced back in style to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 54 runs. Chasing 181, CSK did not get the ideal start after openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa were back in the hut early. Gaikwad was caught in the slips by Dhawan while Uthappa's leading edge was taken by PBKS skipper Agarwal. Kagiso Rabada and Vaibhav Arora claimed a wicket each in those two dismissals.
Punjab Kings' skipper Mayank Agarwal and all-rounder Liam Livingstone credited their seam bowlers for setting up their 54-run victory against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium here on Sunday. Though the dew has been a problem for all teams bowling second in this edition of the IPL, especially in the matches being played at the Brabourne Stadium, the Punjab Kings' bowlers came up with a superb performance to rattle CSK early on and maintained their stranglehold despite a half-century by Shivam Dube. "We got to a target we thought was defendable and the seam bowlers set it up for us. We wanted to be aggressive and as exciting as we can. Nice to get a few today, but as I said, the seamers set it up in the powerplay," said Livingstone, who blasted a brilliant 60 to help Punjab recover from 16 for 2 to reach 180 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja wants his team to find ways to come back stronger even as he defended opener Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor form after his team's third successive defeat in the IPL. After having lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants in the first two games, CSK on Sunday suffered a 54-run loss to Punjab Kings. "I think we lost too many wickets in the powerplay and didn't find momentum from ball one. We need to find a way to come back stronger," Jadeja said after the match.
