First, Pat Cummins became the first-ever player in IPL history to breach the Rs 20 crore mark in auction. He was ultimately picked by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. That was not all, as Mitchell Starc went for an even bigger purse. The Australian pacer saw an intense bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, with the former picking him up for Rs 24.75 crore.
In a history-making move, Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs 24.75 crores just hours after his skipper Pat Cummins had breached the Rs 20 crore mark after being brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), to become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the auction in Dubai on Tuesday. Sam Curran, an all-around player for England, was previously the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having cost Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 18.50 crore for him at the previous year's auction, as per Olympics.com.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction saw 72 players joining the ten franchises and a whopping Rs. 230.45 crore being spent. The Australian pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins emerged as the costliest picks as both of them sparked massive bidding wars. While Pat Cummins was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 crore, Starc broke all records by attracting a bid of Rs 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders. Harshal Patel was the costliest player among the Indians as the all-rounder joined Punjab Kings for a massive amount of Rs 11.75 crore.
After missing out on Australia captain Pat Cummins, who was sold for Rs 20.5 crore by SRH, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went all in for West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph. Joseph, who came in with a base price of Rs 1 crore, was involved in a bidding war between RCB, Delhi Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Kings. RCB eventually got him for Rs 11.5 crore. Yash Dayal, who released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, was also bought by the franchise for Rs 5 crore.
IPL 2024 Auction Updates: After veteran overseas players, now the uncapped Indian batters are raking in the moolah. Shubham Dubey (Rs 5.80 crore, RR) and Sameer Rizvi (Rs 8.4 crore, CSK) have sprung a surprise. Earlier, two senior Australians made history. First, Pat Cummins went for Rs 20.50 crore to SRH to become the first player ever to breach the Rs 20-crore mark. Then Mitchell Starc broke that record and was roped in by KKR for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore - the highest-ever price for an IPL player ever! Earlier in the day, Daryl Mitchell went for Rs 14 crore from CSK. Harshal Patel roped in by PBKS for Rs 11.75 crore. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off a huge bargain at the ongoing IPL Players Auction as the defending champions acquired the services of young New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra for Rs 1.8 crore. Coming to Rachin, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings went after the youngster, but the MS Dhoni-led side got the services of the all-rounder for Rs 1.5 crore. struck once again as they acquired Shardul Thakur in the next five minutes for Rs 4 crore. CSK also splashed Rs 14 crore for Ravindra's Kiwi teammate Daryl Mitchell.
