Robert Caswell’s Southern Area title fight has been a long time coming.
The Australia tour of New Zealand begins with the first match of the series taking place in Wellington. It would be an intriguing sight for the Australian captain Mitchell Marsh who is set to lead Pat Cummins, his captain in the Test and the ODI format. New Zealand will be without the services of Kane Williamson for the series, having taken a paternity leave. But, the Kiwis did receive a boost in the form of Trent Boult who was available for the series. Spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner will be leading the New Zealand side in the absence of Williamson.
Pace bowler Scott Kuggeleijn was recalled on Sunday to replace Kyle Jamieson in New Zealand's squad for the two-Test home series against Australia. Kuggeleijn, whose lone appearance came in a loss to England in Mount Maunganui last year, is the only addition to the 14-man squad that swept under-strength South Africa 2-0 this month. He replaces fellow-seamer Jamieson, who faces a long stint out of cricket after suffering a back stress fracture during the Proteas series.
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell is expected to recover from a foot injury in time for the test matches against Australia later this month while Scott Kuggeleijn will replace injured fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, New Zealand Cricket said on Saturday.
:Kane Williamson hit an unbeaten century as New Zealand patiently chased down a victory target of 267 to beat South Africa by seven wickets on the fourth day of the second test on Friday and clinch a first ever series win over the Proteas.
NZ vs SA Live Updates, 2nd Test Day 4: New Zealand need 227 runs on Day 4 to complete a record run chase and a 2-0 series win over South Africa in Hamilton. The hosts will resume at 40/1 with Tom Latham unbeaten on 21, following Devon Conway's wicket on the stroke of stumps on Day 3. Earlier, David Bedingham's career-high 110 was comfortably the standout knock in South Africa's second innings of 235. The visitors set a 267-run target for the hosts. (Live Scorecard)
Recalled South African spinner Dane Piedt claimed five New Zealand wickets on Wednesday to give the understrength tourists a 31-run lead at stumps on the second day of the second Test. New Zealand's batting succumbed to a disciplined attack led by Piedt, in his first Test since 2019, to be all out for 211 in response to South Africa's 242 in Hamilton. A Proteas team with just 40 Test caps between them have opened up the prospect of squaring the two-match series after crashing to a 281-run loss in the first Test at Mount Maunganui.
:South Africa skittled New Zealand's tail to dismiss their hosts for 211 and take a shock first-innings lead of 31 runs on day two of the second test at Seddon Park on Wednesday.
