TOKYO — Shohei Ohtani hit a 448-foot, three-run home run in the first inning that landed just below his image on a video advertising board and had four RBIs to lead Japan over Australia 7-1 Sunday night at the World Baseball Classic.
Virat Kohli dazzled with a century as India managed to take a 91-run lead against Australia on Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test in Ahmedabad. Kohli hit a towering 186, missing out in his 8th Test double century by a whisker, as India ended their first innings on 571 as Shreyas Iyer did not walk out to bat due to an injury setback. It was a special knock for Kohli as it was his first century in the format after a gap of more than three years. After reaching the milestone, Kohli dedicated his knock to his wife Anushka Sharma by kissing the wedding ring on his gold chain.
Virat Kohli missed out on his eighth double century in Test cricket as he was dismissed on 186 by Todd Murphy against Australia on Day 4 of the fourth Test encounter in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The star batsman looked in mighty touch but his innings finally came to an end as he was caught in the deep by Marnus Labuschagne. With wickets falling on the other end, Kohli looked to accelerate the innings and a miscue off Murphy spelled the end of a near-perfect innings. The disappointment was clear on Kohli's face as he missed out on a major milestone but there was no dearth of adulation from the fans as they go up on their feet and Kohli received a standing ovation as he left the field.
Virat Kohli finally ended his century drought with a brilliant ton against Australia on Day 4 of the fourth Test match in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Kohli, whose last Test century came way back in 2019, looked completely at ease against the Aussie bowlers and ended up scoring a well-deserved ton in 241 deliveries. With this century, Kohli ended up replicating a similar feat that legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar achieved around 40 years ago. This was Kohli's 50th Test match at home and he was able to score a century to celebrate the momentous occasion. Back in 1983, Gavaskar also scored a gritty hundred when he played his 50th Test match at home against West Indies in Delhi.
