New Zealand batters thrive without Williamson and teach England lesson

And now for 900 words on the role played by all different types of soil in the development of New Zealand’s first-class cricket system. Really. This column probably needs a gratuitous reference to Britney Spears here just by way of apology to the people whose job it is to worry about the Guardian’s search engine optimisation ratings.

England vs New Zealand, 2nd Test, Day 1 Live Score: Will Young, Tom Latham Provide New Zealand Cautious Start

ENG vs NZ, 2nd Test, Day 1 Live Updates: Tom Latham and Will Young have provided a cautious start to New Zealand after the visitors were asked to bat first by England in the ongoing second Test at Trent Bridge. Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bowl against New Zealand in the second Test at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. England took a 1-0 lead in the series, courtesy of Joe Root's ton in the second innings, and some fine bowling performance from debutant Matthew Potts. The Durham pacer took seven wickets in the match, while veteran pacer James Anderson and Stuart Broad also enjoyed their time in the middle after being recalled to the side. New Zealand, on the other hand, had made a strong comeback in the second innings, after being bowled out for a paltry total of 131. Kiwis, however, will miss skipper Kane Williamson, who tested positive for Covid on the eve of the second Test. Tom Latham will lead the team in his absence. Meanwhile, Colin de Grandhomme will also miss the game due to an injury. (LIVE SCORECARD)

CSK's 'chin up' attitude the key to their success in IPL, says Devon Conway

Chennai Super Kings batter Devon Conway has attributed his side's performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years to "keeping your chin up" attitude, which he felt doesn't allow emotions to get the better of players even after big losses. The New Zealander added that despite the fact that the four-time IPL champions couldn't hit their stride in this year's edition of the tournament, there was no despondency in the dressing room, as everyone kept a smile on their face, not allowing defeats to affect them much.

Suzie Bates Feels Women's IPL Will Help The Game Grow

New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates on Saturday said that a potential Women's edition of the Indian Premier League will not only add a lot of depth to the Indian women's cricket environment but also help women's cricket grow as a whole. "Yes, firstly, it will be the most important competition for Indian women's cricket, providing opportunities to the domestic players to play at that level. It is gonna create a lot of depth in the Indian women's cricket environment. Globally, just to have so many eyes on women's cricket by having an IPL, is going to help the game grow," said Bates in an interview with ANI.
