Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said he is constantly surprised by his team's ability to carve out wins after their 1-0 extra-time triumph over Colombia in the Copa America final on Sunday. The victory means Argentina become the first South American team to win three straight major tournament titles. The Albiceleste followed up their 2021 Copa America title with the World Cup triumph a year later and successfully defended their Copa title in the USA. Spain are the only other team in international football to have won a World Cup in between two straight continental titles when they clinched Euro wins in 2008 and 2012 either side of the 2010 World Cup.

Widely considered the 'GOAT', Lionel Messi bagged his third consecutive international trophy as Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America 2024 final. The tournament almost ended on a sorry note for Messi who had to be replaced in the second half due to an ankle injury. While Messi cried inconsolably on the bench, his teammates stepped up and delivered him the trophy, with Lautaro Martinez scoring the winning goal in extra time. It was Messi's 45th career trophy, taking him past Brazil's Dani Alves as the most decorated footballer of all time, a huge 'world record'.
MIAMI GARDENS, Florida — An extra time goal by Lautaro Martínez was enough to break a scoreless tie with Colombia and win the 2024 Copa América final for Argentina — and give La Albiceleste their third consecutive title at a major tournament, equaling Spain's feat a dozen years ago.
