“I don’t know how to handle it” admitted Mikaela Shiffrin, after crashing out of her second successive event on Alpine skiing’s biggest stage — but fellow athletes like gymnast star Simone Biles are rallying around her. The American failed to finish the first slalom run at the Winter Olympics, days after suffering the same fate in the giant slalom, and there are now questions about whether she will continue to compete in Beijing.
YANQING DISTRICT, Beijing: Mikaela Shiffrin was expected to cement her position at the top of her sport at the Beijing Games, but after not being able to finish any of her races so far, her story echoes that of fellow elite athletes Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka at the Tokyo Games.

Neeraj Chopra won't be coming to India anytime soon, as the javelin thrower has decided to extend his stay in the US by four-and-half months till the World Athletics Championships in Oregon from July 15 to 24, TOI has learnt. There's a possibility that the Tokyo Olympics gold medallist may return only after the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG), which is scheduled to start four days after the Worlds, on July 28. Neeraj has currently been training at the Chula Vista elite athlete training centre in the US since December 5 last year and was scheduled to arrive home after March 4, following the completion of his 90-day off-season camp. Neeraj placed his request for extension with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the same was forwarded to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), which cleared the proposal. "It made no sense for Neeraj to return home, given the packed international calendar which will see him competing at the Worlds, Birmingham CWG and Hangzhou Asian Games (September 10 to 25)," a source in the know of the development informed.
Olympic bronze medallist India began their FIH Pro League Hockey campaign with a bang as they thrashed France 5-0 in a thoroughly dominant display on Tuesday. After a barren first quarter, India slammed three goals in the second before finding the target twice in the third. India got four penalty corners in the match from which they scored two. France got three PCs but wasted all of them. Harmanpreet Singh and Varun Kumar scored from penalty corners in the 21st and 24th minutes respectively before Shamsher Singh made it 3-0 in the 28th minute with a field goal.
