Istanbul is among the five venues shortlisted to host the IPL auction which is likely to be held on December 16, according to a BCCI official. Besides the Turkish city and Bengaluru, the usual venue for the auction, New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are also in contention. But a final call will be taken when the IPL Governing Council, under new chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, meets for the first time soon.
Roger Binny, former Indian cricket team star and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, was on Tuesday named as the 36th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His appointment was announced at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai. Binny replaces former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Binny, 67, was the only candidate to have filed nomination for the BCCI president's post.
Top Indian discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur, who achieved stardom for her exploits at the Tokyo Games, was on Wednesday banned for three year for using prohibited substance stanozolol, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has announced. Her ban will be effective from March 29, 2022. Kamalpreet was handed a provisional suspension in May this year after testing positive for the steroid, which was found in her sample that AIU collected at Patiala on March 7. Stanozolol is classified as an anabolic steroid and is in the list of banned substances as per World Athletics.
