Out-of-favour from the national team, all-rounder Hardik Pandya will look to prove his doubters wrong as he captains new franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. GT will take on KL Rahul-led new team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their opening match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Hardik will have a bunch of players to choose his final XI, consisting of the likes of Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan and others.
Australia have suffered more injury problems ahead of the white-ball leg of their tour of Pakistan with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh set to be ruled out with a hip injury.
The two new Indian Premier League (IPL) teams -- Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) -- will begin their IPL journey against one another at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. LSG will be captained by KL Rahul while Hardik Pandya will lead GT as both teams will look to begin their season with a win under their belt. LSG could very well open with a deadly combination of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock while the likes of Manish Pandey and Deepak Hooda can lend much-needed support in the middle-order. Andrew Tye and Avesh Khan can form a lethal fast bowling pair and trouble the GT batters.
Punjab Kings' (PBKS) wicketkeeper Bhanuka Rajapaksa called his team's victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday as a "confidence booster". AS IT HAPPENEDPBKS scored 208/5 in 19 overs in reply to RCB's 205/2 to register a five-wicket win in Match-3 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, played here at the DY Patil Stadium. "What we thought was that we'd just have a free hit. Shikhar wanted me to be aggressive, although I had just come out to the middle. I knew how Hasaranga bowls. It was about knowing him and playing him for the last 4-5 years now. I bought my local knowledge and it worked. This win is a huge confidence booster," said Rajapaksa at the post-match presentation.
Packed with multiple match-winners in their ranks, heavyweights Rajasthan Royals face Sunrisers Hyderabad in a clash of former champions as both sides aim for a winning start in the IPL on Tuesday. Royals' batting fortunes will hinge largely on the form of their talented skipper Sanju Samson, who has been around the scene for a while now but has not delivered up to the expectations. Inconsistency has been his bane and he would like to change that and lead from the front this season in search of their first title since the inaugural edition in 2008.
Punjab Kings' all-rounder Odean Smith's pyrotechnics against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have earned him a huge following, with fans going all out to praise his unbeaten 25-run cameo, which came off just eight deliveries and helped his side win their opening game by five wickets. Shahrukh Khan (24) and Smith's (25) power hitting down the order helped Punjab Kings chase down the imposing 205-run target with one over to spare. The 25-year-old Smith, who came in when things started slowing down, made his intent clear when the equation had come to 36 needed off 18 balls. The Jamaican was at 2* off 3 balls, but over the next five legal deliveries Smith faced, he changed the course of the game.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is always known to provide the spectacular and the new season has been surprising fans with some outlandish highlights. One such moment occurred during Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) ongoing IPL 2022 match vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. With RCB captain Faf du Plessis looking invincible with his bat during the first innings, Shahrukh Khan produced a spectacular catch to send the former CSK player back to the pavilion. The incident occurred in the first ball of the 18th over, when Du Plessis received a full delivery from Arshdeep Singh, which was angling in from outside off. The South African tried to clear long off but ended up chipping it well in front and Shahrukh put in a diving catch to grab hold of it at long off.
