London — Russian and Belarusian tennis players will be allowed to continue competing in ATP and WTA tournaments and Grand Slam events, the sport's governing bodies said on Tuesday.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has prompted the world's sporting bodies to consider how they should treat athletes, officials and competitions associated with the conflict.
Russia and Belarus have been banned from the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup, but players will be allowed to compete as individuals on the ATP and WTA tours. Players will also not be allowed to compete under the flag of Russia or Belarus on tour and at Grand Slams.
Russian and Belarusian tennis players can continue to compete in international events and the Grand Slams but they cannot do so under the name or flag of Russia or Belarus until further notice, a joint statement by the international governing bodies said on Tuesday.
