KUWAIT CITY: The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation announced on Wednesday that Kuwait will host the 26th Gulf Cup in December 2024, the Kuwait News Agency reported. It will be the fifth time Kuwait has hosted the competition following previous tournaments in 1974, 1990, 2003, and 2017.
RIYADH: The group stage of the Arab Beach Football Championship in Saudi Arabia concluded on Wednesday with a resounding win for Oman’s national team, which thrashed Kyrgyzstan 14-0. With 12 teams participating, the championship is organized by the Arab Football Association and hosted by the Saudi Federation in Jeddah from May 11-20. Four matches were played in the second and third groups at Al-Hamra Corniche Stadium in Jeddah.
India and Pakistan are set to renew their football rivalry after nearly five years as the two neighbouring countries have been clubbed in the same group in the SAFF Cup to be held in Bengaluru from June 21 to July 4. The draw of the 14th edition of the South Asian Football Federation Cup was held here on Wednesday with defending champions India, Pakistan, Kuwait and Nepal being clubbed in Group A. Lebanon, Maldives, Bangladesh and Bhutan are in Group B.
Pakistan has confirmed its participation in the South Asian Football Federation Championships in Bengaluru in June-July and the AIFF does not see any problem with the players of the neighbouring country travelling to India. The international tournament will also see participation of Lebanon and Kuwait as the SAFF executive committee in March decided to feature teams from outside the south Asian region with a view to make the championship more competitive. "We don't see any problem in the coming of players from Pakistan to India to participate in the SAFF Championships," All Indian Football Federation secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran told PTI.
