Indian uncapped cricketers Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tripathi had a big pay day on Saturday as they were picked up for more than 20 times their base price during the first day of the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) mega auction in Bengaluru. Shahrukh Khan is a Tamil Nadu cricketer who played for Punjab Kings last season. He was picked up by Punjab Kings for INR 9 crore on Saturday. Shahrukh's base price for the auction was INR 40 lakh. However, after a bidding war during the auction, he was eventually sold for 22.5 times his base price.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Saturday said that Mumbai Indians are looking at Ishan Kishan as a long-term prospect and this is the reason why they spent so much on the left-handed batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. Mumbai Indians spent Rs 15.25 crore to get Ishan Kishan back in the squad. "He has the potential to be the future captain as well, not right now. They still have Keiron Pollard who can lead, Bumrah who is a leader himself, they have Suryakumar Yadav who could be the prospect for leadership as well. So, they want to invest for the next 5-7 years, that's why they went after Ishan Kishan so clearly and they knew that no matter what we needed to go back to Ishan Kishan," Pathan said on Star Sports' show 'Cricket Live -- IPL Auction Special'.
South Africa U-19 batter Dewald Brevis on Saturday was acquired by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 3 crore in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The young cricketer is also nicknamed "Baby AB de Villiers". Indian batter Rahul Tripathi was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 8.50 crore after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Indian batter Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani got picked by Gujarat Giants (GT) for Rs 2.6 crore while batter Priyam Garg got sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 20 lakh. Batter Rajat Patidar got unsold at the auction.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) acquired Deepak Chahar for INR 14 crore in the ongoing IPL 2022 Auction on Saturday to make him the most expensive Indian bowler in Indian Premier League history. The bowling all-rounder was involved in a mega bidding war involving CSK, Rajasthan Royals (RR), SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC). CSK eventually came out on top and outbid others. Chahar was also a crucial cog in MS Dhoni's plans last season as they went on to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. After IPL 2021, Chahar wasn't retained by CSK, but has been roped in right away in the ongoing auction. Fans and experts took to Twitter to laud the Team India cricketer, with Harbhajan Singh leading the wishes. "Wah Deepak pethaa bijwa dena ab ghar @deepak_chahar9 mehnat rang layi papa ki.Very happy for you and family #IPLMegaAuction2022 congratulations @ChennaiIPL Top performer 14 cr", said the former Team India spinner.

Earlier, Wriddhiman Saha and Sam Billings went unsold in the auction while Ishan Kishan was picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs 15.25 crore. Dinesh Karthik went to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Jonny Bairstow was acquired by Punjab Kings.
With Team India currently gearing up for the upcoming T20I series vs West Indies, white-ball captain Rohit Sharma took to social media to share a photo of his teammates following the IPL 2022 auction. In the photo which Rohit Sharma posted as his Instagram story, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav could be seen in a hotel room with their eyes glued to TV screen. Kishan and Iyer looked happy in the photo and have already been picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). MI splashed INR 15.25 crore on the wicketkeeper-batter, which also made him the most expensive buy in the ongoing auction. He overtook Iyer, who was earlier picked for INR 12.25 crore by KKR.
