Watch: Shreyas Iyer's "No Look 90 Metre Six" In 1st T20I vs Sri Lanka

Shreyas Iyer was batting almost at a run a ball till he was 12 but things changed rapidly from the moment he walked across his stumps to flick a Dasun Shanaka delivery through the vacant deep square-leg area and collect a boundary in the 17th over of the Indian innings in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. In the next over, Iyer hit couple of boundaries and made his intentions clear. However, it was the 19th over that really showed how destructive Iyer can be with the bat in his hand. The right-hander took apart Chamika Karunaratne, hitting him for three boundaries, including a 90 metre six over long on.

India vs Sri Lanka, 1st T20I: Start was slow but it wasn't easy, says Shreyas Iyer after India's win

Shreyas Iyer admitted that the start to his unbeaten knock of 57 in the first T20I against Sri Lanka was slow but the conditions on the field weren't easy to negotiate. At one point, Iyer was 17 off 14 balls. But in the next 14 balls, he scored a whirlwind 40 runs to put a nice finishing touch to India's score of 199, setting the foundation for a 62-run victory later. "My start was slow but it wasn't easy. But once my eye got in and once I got a boundary, I thought I would keep going. Ishan (Kishan) wasn't able to time (in the middle overs) and he too was losing patience, so I told him to take his time and then he again started timing well. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes," said Iyer after the match.

Rohit Sharma Says Ravindra Jadeja Could Bat Higher Up The Order Again After No 4 Role In 1st T20I vs Sri Lanka

India skipper Rohit Sharma explained the reason why all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was sent up the order in the first T20I against Sri Lanka at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday. Jadeja, who made his Team India return on Thursday, was sent into bat at number four. The left-handed batter scored three runs from four balls. "Very happy with Jadeja's return. We want more from him that is why we asked him to bat higher. You will see that happening more and more in the games that he plays for India. I want him to bat up the order more," said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation.

"Honest Coach Always": Irfan Pathan Backs Rahul Dravid Amid Wriddhiman Saha Episode

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan offered his backing to Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid, without naming the latter, in a recent tweet amid the ongoing saga over wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha being dropped from the Test side. In a tweet posted on the micro-blogging plaform on Sunday, Pathan gave his backing to Dravid without naming him. "An honest coach Or someone just gives hope even after knowing that a player doesn't fit in the scheme of things? Your opinion????? For me an honest coach ALWAYS!" wrote Pathan on Twitter. The tweet appeared to be a direct reference to the episode involving Dravid and Saha.

"He Didn't Have A Great Series...": Wasim Jaffer Picks Team India Openers For T20Is vs Sri Lanka

Wasim Jaffer, former India player, raised a few eyebrows when he excluded Ishan Kishan while picking the team's openers for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka beginning February 24 in Lucknow. Instead, Jaffer went with Ruturaj Gaikwad to partner captain Rohit Sharma. Jaffer also hoped to see Gaikwad being given a "lengthy run". He said Gaikwad should play "at least a couple of games" against Sri Lanka. Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said, "Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad should open in this series because India played with Ishan Kishan [against West Indies] and didn't have a great series. It's time India gives Ruturaj a lengthy run of three games or two games at least. So, I feel Rohit and Ruturaj should open in at least a couple of games."
