Proteas star batter Quinton de Kock produced a stunning unbeaten century for the Lucknow Super Giants in Wednesday's Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter.
After KL Rahul along with centurion Quinton de Kock helped Lucknow Super Giants post a total of 210 for no wickets, registering the highest-ever opening partnership in Indian Premier League (IPL) history in the process, he would have breathed a sigh of relief. But, Kolkata Knight Riders ensured that the LSG skipper did not enjoy a moment's rest, as they took the match right to the wire. In fact, after hitting 18 runs off the first four deliveries of the final over, KKR needed just three runs off two deliveries, but a sensational catch from Evin Lewis and Marcus Stoinis' perfect yorker to Umesh Yadav saw the Rahul-led side win the nail-biter and qualify for the IPL 2022 play-offs.
Proteas batter Quinton de Kock admits his emotional century celebration was purely out of frustration as he steered his side to a nail-biting victory.
Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has impressed one and all with his performance for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Having been bought for Rs 2 crore in the auction, all eyes were on the 27-year-old on how he would perform for the franchise. However, the spinner quickly found his mojo and he now has 20 wickets in the season so far. Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri praised Kuldeep for his outing against Punjab Kings on Monday and also praised DC captain Rishabh Pant for giving the spinner "confidence".
Indian Premier League debutants Lucknow Super Giants booked their place in the playoffs after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-scoring thriller at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday. Chasing a target of 211, KKR were restricted to a total of 208 for eight in 20 overs. After Marcus Stoinis successfully defended 21 runs off the last over, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, who had led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, was visibly pumped and celebrated his team's win in an animated way.
A bit of frustration came out in Quinton de Kock's uncharacteristic celebration after his blazing hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 in Mumbai. At the post-match press conference on Wednesday, Lucknow Super Giants assistant coach Vijay Dahiya cited the possible reason behind the charged-up celebration by the South African opener. "I will speak about Quinton. Sometimes he got runs, sometimes he didn't (in ongoing IPL). When we practiced, or when he was knocking or taking throw-downs, he was always saying he never felt so good and how come it happened that he wasn't able to score," Dahiya said.
Rinku Singh, Kolkata Knight Riders' sensational batter, is a remarkable story that has a huge dose of hardships, rejection, dejection and heart-break and eventually success. In between, his story also involves injury scares and a three-month suspension by the BCCI in 2019 for playing in a T20 tournament in Abu Dhabi. Rinku survived all those setbacks, scored a pile of runs for Uttar Pradesh at the domestic level and slowly and steadily achieved success. The left-hander said that the last five years of his career have been challenging, but he didn't lose self-belief during his injury times. The batter from Aligarh said that his father didn't eat for 2-3 days when he heard about his injury. "I wasn't happy staying away from cricket for so long. My father didn't eat for 2-3 days. I told him it's just an injury and it's part of cricket. I'm the sole breadwinner of my life and when such things happen, it is bound to be worrisome," Singh said in a video.
After playing an explosive and unbeaten knock of 140 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock said that his unique century celebration was out of frustration. A blistering century by Quinton de Kock and an attacking half-century by KL Rahul saw LSG defeat KKR in a nerve-wracking IPL 2022 match by two runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium here on Wednesday.
