England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from international cricket.
After registering a thumping win over Ireland in the first T20I, India skipper Hardik Pandya lavished praise on rival batter Harry Tector for his brilliant batting in the match. Blistering knocks by Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya guided Team India to a seven-wicket over Ireland, in a rain-curtailed first T20I of the two-match series, at Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Dublin on Sunday. Earlier in the first innings, Harry Tector's unbeaten 64 off 33 balls guided Ireland to 108/4 against India.
Team India started the two-match series against Ireland with a seven-wicket win in the first game at The Village in Dublin. The match on Sunday was reduced to 12 overs a side due to rain. Opting to bat first, Ireland posted 108/4 and India chased it down in 9.2 overs. While the Indian bowlers put a combined effort in the first innings, the second innings saw runs coming from the bats of Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya.
India on Sunday defeated Ireland by seven wickets to lead the two-match T20I series 1-0. The match in Dublin saw Indian batters being right on the money but it was certainly the bowling department of the visitors that failed to meet expectations. Ireland scored 108/4 against India in the rain-curtailed match that was reduced to 12 overs a side. Though India eventually won the game riding on a good batting performance, stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya will be looking for a better showing from his bowlers in the second T20I to be played on Tuesday.
India will be hoping for clear weather and improved performances from rookies like Umran Malik when it clashes with Ireland in the second and final T20 at Malahide, Dublin on Tuesday. The rain had reduced the series-opener to 12-overs a side contest and it could well be another shortened game considering a rather gloomy forecast for match day. Ruturaj Gaikwad did not come out to bat on Sunday due to a calf niggle and he could be the only change in the playing eleven if the opener doesn't regain full fitness.
