INDIAN WELLS: World number one Iga Swiatek launched her bid for a rare Indian Wells repeat with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory over 56th-ranked American Claire Liu on Saturday. Neither Liu nor the breezy conditions on Stadium Court troubled Swiatek, who is seeking to become just the second woman — after Martina Navratilova in 1990-91 — to sucessfully defend her title at the prestigious combined WTA and ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament. Swiatek roared through the first set, winning 25 of 32 points.
Emma Raducanu says she has been taking a break from social media since her exit at the Australian Open to fully focus on her tennis. Raducanu is through to the second round at Indian Wells after a 6-2 6-3 win over Danka Kovinic in her first competitive match since exiting the Melbourne Grand Slam at the second-round stage to Coco Gauff in January.

INDIAN WELLS: Former world No. 1 Andy Murray made it through another tense match on Thursday, rallying from a set down to beat Tomas Etcheverry and reach the second round of the Indian Wells WTA and ATP Masters 1000.

McIlroy arrived at TPC Sawgrass in a positive frame of mind after coming up just short in a final-round charge at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend. Ad Bay Hill has a reputation for sapping energy from those fighting it out at the finish on Sunday, while a seven-hour board meeting to discuss the future direction of the PGA Tour would not have been the ideal preparation for The Players.
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has called for "urgent intervention" to protect international cricket, saying it is at an "important crossroads" amidst a crowded global schedule that is getting increasingly swayed by domestic leagues. The mushrooming of leagues, including the latest offering of SAT20 and ILT20, is putting a lot of stress on the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), leading to an "alarming disparity" in the number of matches played by a minority of member nations which is neither "equitable nor sustainable", it added.
They were the two standout players on the WTA Tour last season, featuring in three of the four Grand Slam finals between them, leading the rankings, and amassing more match wins than anyone else.
