IPL 2022: Anrich Nortje Is 4-5 Spells Away From Being Match Ready, Says Delhi Capitals Coach Ricky Ponting

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting feels South African pacer Anrich Nortje is just a couple of spells away from being match ready and expressed optimism over his availability for their next IPL game against Lucknow Super Giants on April 7. Nortje has been out of competitive cricket since last November's T20 World Cup due to a back and hip injury.

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals' coach Ponting expects Nortje, Warner boost for Lucknow game

Anrich Nortje and Australia opener David Warner will be available for Delhi Capitals' next match in the Indian Premier League (IPL), coach Ricky Ponting said after the team's defeat by Gujarat Titans on Saturday. Nortje has not played since last year's Twenty20 World Cup after being sidelined with a back and hip injury. Ponting said the 28-year-old has resumed bowling in the nets and would play Thursday's match against IPL debutants Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai. "I think he has to get through another maybe four or five-over spell at 100 percent capacity and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa, he should be right to go," Ponting said. "We have got a few more days before our next game, so hopefully he is available for selection for that one."

IPL 2022: Best Memes On Twitter After Umesh Yadav's Whirlwind Start For KKR

Umesh Yadav has been the surprise package of IPL 2022 so far. The Indian pacer's stocks were at an all-time low after playing just two matches in the Indian Premier League over two seasons. In IPL 2020, Umesh played just two matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore before shipped off to Delhi Capitals. For DC, the right-arm pacer didn't get to play even a single match in IPL 2021. During the IPL mega auction, Umesh went unsold in the first two rounds, before being picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders, a team he played for from 2014 to 2017.

IPL 2022: We could have batted well, feels Delhi captain Rishabh Pant after loss against Gujarat

Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 clash on Saturday, Delhi Capitals' skipper Rishabh Pant said that the team could have batted well in the middle overs. Shubman Gill's 84-run knock and Lockie Ferguson's four-wicket haul guide Gujarat to a 14-run win here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "I think according to the wicket, that total was not so big. We could have batted well, especially in the middle overs. We lost three wickets in the powerplay and three in the middle (overs). I think every match is going to be hard after losing so many wickets," said Pant in a post-match presentation.

IPL 2022: Lockie Ferguson's over changed momentum, says Gujarat Titans' captain Hardik Pandya

Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League match on Saturday, Delhi Capitals were very much in the game at 118/4, with skipper Rishabh Pant still at the crease. But a double blow from Lockie Ferguson in the 15th over, first to dismiss Pant for 43 and then Axar Patel, tilted the match in Gujarat's favour. The Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat ultimately won by 14 runs here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "Not bad, to be honest. Very happy with the way everyone is stepping up on the right occasion...That over from Lockie changed the momentum," said Hardik at the post-match presentation ceremony.

IPL 2022, GT vs DC: Ferguson, Gill star in Gujarat Titans' win over Delhi Capitals

Lockie Ferguson may not steam in like former Kiwi expressman Shane Bond or possess the rhythmic run-up ex-South African pacer Dale Steyn had. His run-up, a gentle amble to the crease, belies the speed at which he going to deliver the ball. What he brings to the mix is a mean bouncer and a quick off-cutter, which on Saturday led to the undoing of Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and allrounder Axar Patel at Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium. AS IT HAPPENEDThe two wickets Ferguson took in the 15th over had a profound impact. In pursuit of the Titans' 171, Capitals ended 14 runs short, giving the debutants an unbeaten start to their maiden IPL campaign. Ferguson ended with figures of 4/28 off his four overs. Ferguson had enjoyed another double strike earlier in the fourth over, getting rid of dangerous opener Prithvi Shaw and Mandeep Singh. An astute Pandya brought Ferguson back in the 15th over with the match evenly poised, and the New Zealander's second double strike sealed the issue. Pant and Lalit Yadav had resurrected the Capitals' innings from 34/3 with a 61-run fourth-wicket stand before the latter was run-out looking for a non-existent single.
