MUMBAI : Dinesh Karthik will turn 37 in June but he still harbours hopes of fulfilling his "bigger goal" of playing for India again, the wicketkeeper said after setting up an Indian Premier League win for the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a blistering knock.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis gave credit to Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed and his bowlers for their 16-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL here on Saturday. Karthik hammered 66 not out while Shahbaz contributed an unbeaten 32 and shared a 97-run partnership for the sixth wicket after Glenn Maxwell had set the platform with an attacking 55 as RCB posted 189/5 in 20 overs. Their bowlers, led by Josh Hazlewood (3/28) and Mohammed Siraj (2/31), then restricted Delhi Capitals to 173/7 in 20 overs to seal their fourth win in six matches so far this season.

The 33-year-old was run out by Lalit Yadav for 12 runs off 14 balls on the seventh over of RCB's innings. Receiving a length delivery from Shardul Thakur, Kohli directed it towards point and went for a single but Glenn Maxwell (non-striker) sent him back. The former RCB captain was caught short by Yadav, who collected the ball to complete a successful direct hit at the same time towards the striker's end, which was further confirmed by the third umpire.
Umesh Yadav is the latest to join that brigade with his super show in the first half of the tournament so far. Umesh, who last played white-ball cricket for India in February 2019 in a T20I match against Australia in Visakhapatnam, did not get enough opportunities to represent the country in the shortest format, playing only seven T20Is in his career.
