South Africa reeled off their highest successful chase in a T20 game when they beat India by seven wickets in their first of five T20s in Delhi on Wednesday.
Rassie van der Dussen was finding it tough initially as South Africa were chasing a daunting 212 against India in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, he was given a life by Shreyas Iyer as the star dropped his catch in the 16th over of the innings and from there on, there was no looking back for the South African. The right-handed batter changed the tempo of his innings, and along with David Miller, ensured that the visitors walk away with a victory.
South Africa batter David Miller celebrated his birthday one day in advance as he helped South Africa pull off a heist against India in the first T20I of the five-match series on Thursday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The left-handed batter scored 64 runs, helping Proteas register a seven-wicket win with five balls to spare. Miller's skipper in the IPL, Hardik Pandya, wished the Proteas player a very happy birthday on Friday.
Rassie van der Dussen, who top-scored for Proteas against India on Thursday, credited South African players' experience of playing in IPL 2022 for the team's triumph in the opening T20I of the five-match series. Top knocks by Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller took South Africa to a seven-wicket over India in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. "Myself having watched a lot of IPL games, having not got much of an opportunity to play, (I) had a pretty good idea of what their bowlers would do and the conditions," Rassie van der Dussen said in a post-match press conference.
India's 12-game winning run in the shortest format came to an end after they lost to South Africa in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. India failed to defend a target of 212 as Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller played sensational knocks to take South Africa home. While analysing the game, former India pacer Ashish Nehra questioned India captain Rishabh Pant's decision to utilise Yuzvendra Chahal for just 2.1 overs.
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India opener Ishan Kishan says they will have to come up with a plan to tame David Miller in their ongoing Twenty20 series as the explosive South Africa batsman continues the rich vein of form he found in the Indian Premier League.
Australia captain Ricky Ponting has said that Rishabh Pant should be an integral part of India's ICC T20 World Cup campaign in Australia later this year, adding that the wicketkeeper-batter will be "exceptionally dangerous for India" given the flat and bouncy pitches Down Under. While Pant may have scored the second-lowest score (340 runs) in the seven seasons he has played in the IPL, and a captaincy blunder in the crucial match may have cost his side a playoffs berth, but Delhi Capitals head coach Ponting believes that Pant is "an outstanding young man who has the world at his feet". "He's (Pant) a wonderful player. He is just an outstanding young man who has got the world at his feet and he'll be exceptionally dangerous for India, especially on the wickets we'll provide in Australia... good flat, fast, bouncy wickets. He'll be one of the players to watch out for in the tournament," opined Pointing on ICC Review. Having seen Pant's progression while at Delhi Capitals, the Australian legend felt that Pant should be utilised as a "floater" during the T20 World Cup in October-November this year.
