Commonwealth Games but Indian high jumper Tejaswin Shankar says he will "pick up the pieces" and prepare in the best possible way after getting a last-minute entry into the Birmingham event. National record holder Shankar was on Friday cleared to compete at the July 28 to August 8 Games after the organisers accepted his entry on the request of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), ending a month-long drama surrounding his participation. SC to finalise AIFF constitution on July 28

FIFA women's football World Cup in India in October without an elected football governing body. Amidst cross-arguments between lawyer for constituent 36 football associations and advocate Rahul Mehra, who had triggered off the reforms with a PIL in the Delhi HC, joint secretary in Union sports ministry Siddhartha Singh Longjam made a spirited presentation about early finalisation of the AIFF constitution to bring it in sync with FIFA's requirements for hosting the international event. "In 2017, India hosted the FIFA U-17 men's World Cup and it gave rich experience to our junior players, some of whom graduated to the senior team and helped India qualify for the Asia Cup. Though the Indian women's team is ranked 56, it will get a chance to p lay with top teams of the world in October to enrich the players with international experience. A FIFA team has met the government officials and said that it would like AIFF to have a democratically elected body. We are apprehensive that in the absence of a constitution, there would not be any elections which could jeopardise hosting the event," Longjam said.

Hold Elections Or Face Suspension: International Olympic Committee Tells Indian Olympic Association

Concerned at the state of affairs of the Indian Olympic Association, the International Olympic Committee has threatened to suspend the governing body if it fails to conduct its election within the coming weeks. "The IOC and the OCA have been following, with great concern, the latest developments affecting the Indian Olympic Association," IOC said in its letter to all the members of the IOA executive council. "Should the IOA fail to fulfil its obligations and be unable to organise its quadrennial elections properly within the coming weeks, the IOC will, unfortunately, have no other option but to consider appropriate protective measures vis-à-vis the IOA, including a suspension, until the IOA can operate as normal and hold its elections in accordance with the Olympic Charter and the IOA Constitution.
