BANGALORE: India's rising star Ishan Kishan fetched a whopping US$2 million in the auction for the Indian Premier League - the world's most valuable cricket tournament - on Saturday.
Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar clinched the most eye-popping deals as India's battle-hardened T20 exponents laughed their way to the bank on the opening day of IPL mega-auction where the franchises saved their highest bids for home-grown talent. Kishan's Rs 15.25 crore winning bid from Mumbai Indians pipped the Rs 14 crore figure that CSK offered to retain Deepak Chahar on Saturday. Franchises showed prudence in overall spending but didn't hesitate to loosen the purse strings for proven performers, especially Indians. In terms of US Dollars, there were 20 million-plus buys, the biggest by far at any IPL auction with most of the beneficiaries being Indian T20 specialists.

Avesh Khan has been roped in by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 10 crore in the ongoing IPL 2022 auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. The 25-year-old was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) after IPL 2021. The pacer finished second in the Purple Cap race last season with 24 wickets in 16 matches. The bowler has also become the most expensive uncapped pick in IPL auction history. The fee paid for Avesh has surpassed the previous all-time high of INR 9.25 crore paid for an uncapped player when Krishnappa Gowtham was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021. The base price of Avesh was INR 20 lakh.

All-rounder Harpreet Brar was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 3.8 crore after a fierce bidding war with GT. On the other hand, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahamad was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 2.4 crore. For Tewatia, a bidding war took place between GT and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Meanwhile, all-rounder Kamlesh Nagarkoti got picked by Delhi Capitals for Rs 40 Lakhs.

Shahrukh Khan is a Tamil Nadu cricketer who played for Punjab Kings last season. He was picked up by Punjab Kings for INR 9 crore on Saturday. Shahrukh's base price for the auction was INR 40 lakh. However, after a bidding war during the auction, he was eventually sold for 22.5 times his base price.
