IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja quits CSK captaincy after dip in form; MS Dhoni back at helm

Chennai Super Kings captain came to a halt a day before the team’s ninth game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The allrounder, who took over as CSK skipper, stepped down after discussions with MS Dhoni, coach Stephen Fleming and the management. CSK informed in a statement that Jadeja has relinquished his post and Dhoni will take over as the captain. One understands that Jadeja’s dip in form was a cause of concern for the management and it was decided that the allrounder should continue as a player. This season, Jadeja has managed only 112 runs so far at an average of 22.40, which is his lowest in the last few years. Even with the ball, he has only got five wickets so far and an economy-rate of 8.19 is way higher than his career IPL career IPL economy rate of 7.64.

On Saturday, Mumbai Indians rode on Suryakumar Yadav's half-century against Rajasthan Royals to register their first win of the season after a disastrous start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign which saw them lose the first eight matches. Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli hit his first half-century of the season, but Royal Challengers Bangalore slumped to a six-wicket defeat against the rampant Gujarat Titans, who have all but sealed a spot in the playoffs. Rahul Tewatia and David Miller starred in yet another thrilling chase for the Titans, who were under the pump at one point.

Rahul Tewatia (43*) and David Miller (39*) are consistently making their mark as two of the most reliable finishers in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Against Chennai Super Kings, it was Miller’s unbeaten 94 along with Rashid Khan’s innings that took the Gujarat Titans to victory in the last over. On Saturday, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, the duo’s 79-run partnership in 40 balls again bailed out the Titans from a mid-match collapse to register a six-wicket triumph. Their finishing overshadowed former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s return to form with a half-century.
