Bouchard was untroubled for a major part of the first set and looked set to run away with it before the Indian No.2 fought back and won two games. Inconsistency cost Thandi as the former world No.5 Canadian closed out the set 6-2.

Experienced German Tatjana Maria outclassed India No. 1 Ankita Raina 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round of the singles main draw of the Chennai Open WTA 250 tennis tournament in Chennai on Tuesday. Russian Anastasia Gasanova sent top-seed Alison-Riske Amritraj packing with a 6-2 6-3 win in an hour and 29 minutes. The fourth-seed Maria proved too good for the 29-year old Indian, dashing her hopes in an hour and 15 minutes. The Wimbledon semifinalist did not allow Raina any chance.
England have added former Australia batsman Michael Hussey and the ex-bowling coach David Saker to their backroom staff for the Twenty20 World Cup, the country's cricket board (ECB) said on Wednesday.
Former India and Karnataka batter Robin Uthappa, who was part of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup, has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. He made the announcement on his Twitter handle. "It has been my greatest honour to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you all," Uthappa tweeted.
Pacer Ishwar Pandey, who had a decent time in the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), announced his retirement on Tuesday. The veteran of 75 first-class (263 wickets) and 58 List A matches (63 wickets) could never make it to the national side. In 2014, the right-arm pacer was picked in the Test squad for a Tour of New Zealand, but he played only one of the Tour Games. In the IPL, Ishwar picked 18 wickets in 25 matches during his stint with CSK, Rising Pune Supergiants and Pune Warriors.
Already led by an Australian in head coach Matthew Mott, England has also hired two more people from Down Under — its former fast-bowling coach, David Saker, and ex-international batter Michael Hussey — to be part of the backroom team for the tournament. Saker, who will begin his consultancy contract during the forthcoming T20 series in Pakistan that precedes the T20 World Cup, spent five years with the England men's team before leaving in 2015.
