Narendra Modi on Saturday felicitated the Indian contingent on its return from the Commonwealth Games, saying the 'Golden Era' of Indian sports is about to dawn. He lauded the athletes for the record haul of medals at Birmingham. The PM hailed the revival of the country's rich legacy of hockey and also the stupendous performance of women athletes besides the debutants. Hosting the contingent at his residence, Modi said the athletes come from different states and diverse cultures and play different sports but the love for the nation and pride towards the 'Tiranga' unites them.

Promising Indian squash player Anahat Singh entered the quarterfinals of the women's singles event of the WSF World Juniors 2022 after beating England's Torrie Malik 3-1 in the fourth round in France on Saturday. Anahat, who was a member of India's squash contingent in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, defeated Malik 11-5, 11-5, 6-1, 11-7.

In a statement which she shared on Twitter, the double Olympic medallist confirmed that she will be missing the 2022 World Championships. Sindhu has won the World Championships gold in 2019, along with two silver medals and two bronze. "While I am on the high of winning a gold medal at the CWG for India. Unfortunately, I have to pull out of the world championships. I felt pain and there was an injury scare at the quarter-finals of the CWG, but with the help of my coach, physio and trainer, I decided to push as far as I could," Sindhu said in the statement.
