Also this week, there was an international outcry after the Taliban ordered Afghan women to cover their faces in public. When the hardline group returned to power last year, it had initially pledged softer rule than when it led the country two decades ago. Instead, new limits on freedom and movement have been imposed, particularly for women and girls – from dress restrictions to education.
