American Nathan Chen delivered a stunning short program to lead the men's figure skating but defending champion Yuzuru Hanyu's medal chances were severely dented at Beijing 2022.
Three-time world champion Nathan Chen topped the short programme leaderboard with a scintillating short programme that saw him smash the world record. The short programme destroyed the American's bid for Olympic glory in Pyeongchang but he goes into the free programme in Beijing in style, registering an all-time best score of 113.97 to beat Yuzuru Hanyu's record of 111.82. Ester Ledecka progressed to the next stage of the women’s parallel giant slalom, easing through the elimination run with a 1:23.63 time — over two seconds quicker than second place Ramona Hofmeister.
