Though it's Gill who has shone the most among these players, with three centuries to his name, former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers snubbed both him and his former teammate Kohli as he picked his 'favourite player' from the 16th edition of the league.

Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood has been included in the 15-member squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India beginning at The Oval on June 7. The 32-year-old had flown back home from the Indian Premier League before his side Royal Challangers Bangalore's must-win game against Gujarat Titans due to a side soreness. He has, however, been included in the squad alongside fellow pacers, Test skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland.

Michael Hussey feels it is "hard to see past Virat Kohli" if India are to win the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in London from June 7. Besides Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma will be key to India's chances in the WTC final, the former Australia batter said. "It's hard to see past Virat Kohli. He (Kohli) is obviously coming back into some great form again in all forms of the game really, so both he and Rohit Sharma with the bat are going to be important for India," Hussey told the ICC website. Kohli is back to his best and recently scored back-to-back hundreds in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Shubman Gill played a knock for the ages as Gujarat Titans hammered Mumbai Indians by 62 runs to reach the final of the Indian Premier League for the second time in as many seasons. Gill led GT's charge with a 60-ball 129, smashing seven fours and 10 sixes to take his team to a mammoth total of 233/3 in IPL 2023 Qualifier 2. Courtesy of his knock, the 23-year-old became the leading batsman this season with 851 runs, surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis (730), before he reached his IPL best and the top score of this season.
