Real Madrid's Brazil forward Vinicius Jr has called LaLiga and Spain racist after receiving racial slurs from the stands in Sunday's defeat at Valencia's Mestalla stadium.
Wingers will always catch the eye. It's arguably the most exciting and threatening position in a football team; operating in those areas of unpredictability, where freedom exists and risks are taken along with responsibility. So much comes from the wide positions; the art of one-on-one battles over the course of 90 minutes - those players constantly looked for by others, in search of a spark.
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior was subjected to racist abuse yet again on Sunday with the Brazilian saying the Spanish league "now belongs to racists."
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday condemned the racist abuse of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior after his fellow Brazilian was targeted during a Spanish league match at Valencia. Speaking at a news conference at the close of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, Lula said he wanted to send a message of "solidarity" to the 22-year-old forward. "He was attacked. He was called a 'monkey,'" Lula said.
Vinicius Junior said La Liga "belongs to racists" after suffering vile abuse on Sunday during Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat at Valencia. The 22-year-old Brazilian winger faced off with home supporters and pointed directly to one after racist insults during the second half. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said he heard monkey chants near the start of the game, while Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti said there was "a racist atmosphere" at Mestalla.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said Spanish football had a racism problem and needed to be prepared to halt matches, after Vinicius Junior was again the target of abuse during a 1-0 defeat at Valencia in La Liga on Sunday. "The Spanish league has a problem, and Vinicius is not the problem. Vinicius is the victim. There's a very serious problem," Ancelotti said, adding that Vinicius was "sad, not angry" after the incidents at Mestalla. Midway through the second half play was delayed for several minutes after Vinicius appeared to be racially abused by a Valencia supporter.
