RIO DE JANEIRO, May 13 : Carlo Ancelotti has seen enough trophies, tantrums and tactical revolutions to know that Brazil's World Cup problem is not a shortage of talent - it is what happens when that talent starts treating every misplaced pass like a national emergency.
RABAT: Morocco have confirmed they will play three warm-up matches before next month’s World Cup, giving their new coach more game time with his squad. Morocco, who were surprise semifinalists at the World Cup in Qatar four years ago, appointed Mohamed Ouahbi as coach in March after the resignation of Walid Regragui. Ouahbi has had only two matches in charge since taking over, a draw with Ecuador and a victory over Paraguay just weeks into the job. Morocco’s football federation said the team would play Burundi on May 26 behind closed doors at their training center in Sale before a game against Madagascar on June 2 in Rabat, where supporters will be able to send the team off. Once they arrive in the United States, where their base camp will be in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, the Moroccans will conclude their preparations with a clash against Norway on June 7 in New York. Morocco are expected to begin preparations on May 22 but only plan to name their squad a week later, reports said. Drawn in Group C at the World Cup, Morocco face Brazil on June 13 in New York, Scotland on June 19 in Boston, and Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta.
KEARNY, United States: Anthony Duro had hoped the World Cup coming to his football-mad New Jersey town would mean watching games at nearby MetLife Stadium, but sky-high ticket prices are beyond his budget. The 20-year-old is one of many people in the industrial suburb of Kearny, nicknamed “Soccer Town USA” for its footballing history, priced out by the FIFA tournament facing criticism over soaring costs.“It’s annoying because it would be nice to go to see a country play here, especially since I live so close to the stadium,” Duro told AFP at a football field flanked by a scrapyard and warehouses.“For me, it’s ridiculous,” the goalkeeper added, taking a break from palming away shots struck by friends wearing colorful Brazil and Barcelona jerseys. The most expensive face value ticket for the 2026 final at MetLife Stadium is more than $30,000 — well above the peak of around $1,600 for the 2022 final.
RIYADH, May 12 : Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento scored a 98th-minute own goal that denied his team the chance to wrap up the Saudi Pro League title in a 1-1 draw with Al Hilal on Tuesday.
