India beat Nepal 4-2 in a high-octane match to progress to the final of the 2024 SAFF U17 Championship at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Saturday. After a goalless first half, India scored through Vishal Yadav (61st and 68th minutes), Rishi Singh (85th) and Hemneichung Lunkim (90 5), while Subash Bam (81st) and an own goal by India's Mohammed Kaif (89th) allowed Nepal to reduce the margin. In the title clash to be played on Monday, India await the winners of the second semifinal between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Boxing's Future Hangs In Balance After Asian body Votes In Favour Of IBA
Boxing's already uncertain Olympic future was thrown into further jeopardy after the sport's Asian governing body voted against leaving the suspended International Boxing Association (IBA) to join the rival association. The polling was held via a secret ballot on Saturday with 21 countries voted to continue with IBA, while 14 cast their ballot in favour of joining World Boxing (WB), a breakaway body which is aiming for recognition of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). There was one invalid vote.
India U17 Coach Happy With Team's Preparation Ahead Of Indonesia Friendlies
The Indian men's U17 team landed in Bali ahead of their two friendly matches against Indonesia U17 on August 25 and 27. On Friday night the Blue Colts played a practice match against local side Bali United FC U20 at the Samudra Kuta Stadium, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Arbash scored the goals for India. Coached by Ishfaq Ahmed, India U17s are preparing for next month's SAFF U17 Championship, to be held in Bhutan, and the subsequent AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers, which will be hosted by Thailand in October. They had been training in Srinagar for over a month and a half before their trip to the Island of the Gods.
East Bengal Clubbed With Nejmeh, Bashundhara Kings, Paro In AFC Challenge League
Indian Super League club East Bengal has been drawn in Group A of the AFC Challenge League alongside Nejmeh SC (Lebanon), Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh) and Paro FC (Bhutan). The Group A encounters will happen at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. The Red and Gold Brigade made it to the competition thanks to its title conquest at the Kalinga Super Cup this year.
