Ishan Kishan Makes History, Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar To Claim Sensational ODI Record

Ishan Kishan slammed his second consecutive half-century during the second ODI encounter against West Indies in Barbados on Saturday and in the process, the youngster surpassed legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar to claim a massive milestone. Kishan overtook Tendulkar as the Indian batter with the most runs as an opener in the first five ODI innings with 348 runs. In comparison, Sachin had 321 followed by Shubman Gill (320) and Kris Srikkanth (261). The youngster also equalled MS Dhoni's record of scoring back-to-back fifties as a wicket-keeper batsman – a feat that the former India skipper achieved back in 2017 against West Indies.

The Indian cricket team were completely outplayed by West Indies as they slumped to a six-wicket loss in the second ODI match in Barbados. The visitors decided to rest both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after winning the first match of the series but their batters were unable perform on Saturday as India were all out for just 181. Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt believes that the current India team lacks players who can ideally replace Rohit or Virat at present and he had an interesting solution to the problem. Butt said that India can experiment with the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan with Rohit and Kohli coming at No.3 and No.4 respectively.

Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad criticised Rohit Sharma and Co after losing the second ODI match against West Indies in Barbados on Saturday. India struggled to score runs in the absence of star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they were all out for just 181. Earlier, the Indian cricket team also missed out the opportunity to whitewash the hosts in the Test series but rain played spoilsport as the second match of the series ended in a draw. Prasad tweeted that India have been ordinary in white-ball cricket and even called them out for “celebrating mediocrity”.

Team India's star batter Virat Kohli was seen giving autographs and clicking pictures with some young fans in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their social media handles. On Sunday, the BCCI posted a video of star batter Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma and batter Suryakumar Yadav posing for a few photos and signing autographs. A young fan gifted a bracelet to Kohli. Acknowledging her affection and gesture, the latter wore the bracelet on his right wrist and thanked the young fan for it.

The Indian playing XI for the second ODI against West Indies in Barbados on Saturday had a different look as regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not part of it. Hardik Pandya stood in for Rohit, the skipper. "Few questions need to be answered for us, so Virat and Rohit are resting. They can be fresh for the third ODI. The way we bowled was impressive. The way we caught was great, it changed the momentum. I think when you get someone out for 115, it's a good effort from the bowlers. Our catching was impressive, but we can improve in certain areas. Instead of losing five wickets, we could have lost only two wickets and finished the last game. Sanju Samson and Axar Patel come in for Rohit and Virat," stand-in captain Hardik Pandya said at the toss.

On a day when India aspiring batters, in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, failed to capitalise on a great opportunity, there was little to cheer up the visitors in Barbados at the second ODI against West Indies on Saturday. However, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and allrounder Ravindra Jadeja lightened up the mood as they indulged in banter in the rain-hit second ODI. During one of the two rain interruptions, Chahal could be seen teasing Jadeja, who had a good laugh.

West Indies beat India by six wickets in the second one-day international at Barbados on Saturday, claiming their first victory over the Asian side in nearly four years to level the series at 1-1 and force a decider.
