Legendary India skipper Sunil Gavaskar was all praise for Shubman Gill as the talented opener slammed a brilliant century on Day 3 of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Gill looked completely in control against the Australia bowlers on a pitch that did not provide any special assistance and Gavaskar believes that the future is extremely bright for him. During a break in day's play, the former India captain went on to say that Gill will have to maintain his composure and if he can keep his career on the right track, 8000-10000 runs will be a guarantee for the right-hander.
Shubman Gill continued his second hundred in the longest format of the game on Day 3 of the 4th Test against Australia. It was in the third Test at Indore that Gill earned the nod to open alongside Rohit Sharma, with the team management deciding to drop KL Rahul, owing to his poor form. Gill didn't manage to make the most of his outing in the third Test but stepped up and delivered in Ahmedabad. The young opening batter scored only his second century for India in red-ball cricket, orchestrating an over 100-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara for the third wicket.
Usman Khawaja was the showstopper for Australia, scoring a whopping 180 runs as the tourists posted 480 runs in the first innings against India in Ahmedabad. While Khawaja drew plaudits from the entire cricketing fraternity for his heroics with the bat, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali some bizarre remarks on the opening batter, suggesting he played with a 'timid approach'. In fact, Ali also said that Australia's top-scoring batter Khawaja played 'like a batsman from Bangladesh'.

Victory in the 2023 Asian Cricket Council’s Challenger Cup in Thailand has catapulted Saudi Arabia’s men’s team into unchartered waters. It also emphasised the increasing levels of competition within Asian cricket.
Little tweaks in technique after an underwhelming tour of Bangladesh has worked wonders for Ravichandran Ashwin, who will go to bed on Friday night "feeling a lot better" as his spells against the Australians had "more penetration". "You can go to bed feeling a lot better instead of having just three wickets in your kitty," Ashwin said after the end of second day's play in the series-deciding fourth Test. "It does feel good as you end up with good bag of wickets, even if you don't bowl sometimes, you feel good about it. I will go to bed tonight a bit early and a bit happier." Ashwin has taken 24 wickets in the series so far with an innings left to bowl, but his 6/91 in 47.2 overs will certainly go down as one of his best efforts on a flat deck, after having got a chance to ply his trade on some of the spinner-friendly conditions.
