The controversy over facilities in Greater Noida continued as play on Day 2 of the one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was once again called off without any action. The Greater Noida Authority has come under a lot of fire after the ground staff failed to get the field ready for play at the Pathik Sports Complex. The umpires cited "players safety" as a concern and although there was no rain on Tuesday, some wet patches on the field made it impossible for the officials to start the play. While Afghanistan have played majority of their games in India at Greater Noida, the BCCI gave the Afghanistan Cricket Board a few options including Kanpur, Bengaluru, and Greater Noida.

Rishabh Pant is all set to return to international red-ball cricket after the wicket-keeper batter was included in the Indian cricket team squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh starting September 19. Pant will be making his return after around 20 months as he was sidelined for a long time following the injuries suffered in a car accident in 2022. He was a key member of the Indian cricket team at the T20 World Cup 2024 and he also made his ODI return against Sri Lanka. Pant has now found a fan in WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff.

As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Duleep Trophy squads for the second round, the majority of the players picked in the India squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, including Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, were withdrawn. The likes of Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel, who all have been exempted from the second round, as well, but the scenario is a little different for Sarfaraz Khan and Yash Dayal, both of whom were also named for the Test series opener.

Rinku Singh Picked For Duleep Trophy As BCCI Makes Big Changes In Squads

All-rounder Rinku Singh received the nod from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the second round matches of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. Rinku comes in as a replacement player in the India B squad after the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant had to withdraw following their selection for the senior men's Test series against Bangladesh. The second round matches in the Duleep Trophy starting from 12th September. The BCCI also revealed in a release that India A Captain Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep have been named in India's Test squad for the series against Bangladesh and will not feature in the upcoming round.

But, there was no return for Mohammed Shami, though the veteran pacer was expected to be fit for the first Test against Bangladesh. Shreyas Iyer, despite his impressive performance in the first Duleep Trophy match, wasn't picked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee either.
