Ravichandran Ashwin has insisted that people have doubted his credentials a Test cricketer for India throughout his career, mainly because he made his name as a bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ashwin added that he came into the Indian Test set up as a replacement of former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, but admitted that people doubted whether he could actually fill in such big shoes. However, with 101 Tests and 522 wickets in the bag, Ashwin has managed to win over his doubters.
Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took six wickets as India hammered Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test to go 1-0 up in the two-match series on Sunday. Bangladesh, who began day four in Chennai on 158-4 and chasing 515 for a famous win, were bowled out for 234 in the first session with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring 82. Ashwin, who went wicketless in the first innings and scored a century, claimed his 37th Test wicket haul to end the game with figures of 6/88.
The Indian cricket team ended its 92-year-long wait as it defeated Bangladesh in the first Test of the 2-match series in Chennai. The 280-run victory for India at Chepauk resulted in the team getting their number of wins tally above their tally of the number of losses incurred in the longest format of the game for the first time in history. India played their first-ever Test in 1932, under the leadership of CK Naidu, but incurred a 158-run defeat. Since that match, India had never managed to get their number of wins higher than the number of losses.
India's superstar spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, added another feather to his cap as he claimed his 37th 5-wicket haul in Tests. Ashwin achieved the feat as he bagged 6 wickets against Bangladesh in the second innings of the first Test at Chepauk, his home ground. The first innings wasn't the most fruitful for Ashwin from a bowling perspective, as he failed to bag a single wicket. But, he scored a century with the bat, playing a pivotal role in taking the team's total to 376 runs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Men's Selection Committee announced India's squad for the second Test against Bangladesh. In a release issued by the BCCI, the selection committee retained the same squad for the second Test. The second Test will be played in Kanpur from 27th September. There were talks around KL Rahul's position in the team, especially after the way he performed in the series opener at Chepauk. But, the selection committee decided to give him another chance. However, it would be interesting to see if Sarfaraz Khan is preferred over him in the playing XI.
Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's mastery over his craft, underlined by a six-wicket haul, proved too immense for Bangladesh as India cantered to a massive 280-run victory in the first Test with five sessions to spare, on Sunday. Maintaining a clean slate against the Asian neighbours, India now lead the two-match series 1-0. Starting from their overnight 158 for four, Bangladesh were bundled out for 234 in their second innings as Ashwin scythed through their line-up (6/88).
CHENNAI, India : India captain Rohit Sharma was pleased with the strong start to his team's long test season after their 280-run romp in the series opener against Bangladesh on Sunday.
