Monkeys tend to snatch food and other items such as mobile phones from the spectators, arriving at the venue to watch a cricket match. Expecting an elevated struggle against monkeys for the duration of the second Test in Kanpur, the stadium authorities devised a rather unique plan.

India captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first after the toss for the second Test against Bangladesh was delayed for an hour due to a wet outfield. With overcast conditions on offer, India named an unchanged side with three pacers getting the nod. Bangladesh, on the other hand, made two changes to the team for the match, which could be former skipper Shakib Al Hasan's last outing in the format. Pacer Khaled Ahmed and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam replaced seamers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana, following the 280-run loss in the series-opener in Chennai last week.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed has claimed the board cannot provide Shakib Al Hasan "individual security" that he has asked for to play his final Test in Dhaka against South Africa in October. On Thursday, Shakib expressed his desire to retire from the Test format on his home soil if the South Africa tour takes place. As of now, the Proteas series in October is still tentative as Cricket South Africa is yet to give security clearance after the inspection of the venue earlier this week.
