Bangladesh ended a 10-year wait to win a Women's T20 World Cup match on Thursday as Pakistan warmed up for a mouthwatering clash with India by defeating Asian champions Sri Lanka.
Former Australian captain Brad Haddin lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for being able to force out a result out of an almost unwinnable match against Bangladesh in Kanpur and backed the Men in Blue to replicate such more performances during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy away from home this year in November. In the Kanpur Test, Team India missed two days of action due to rain and wet outfield after Bangladesh ended the first day at 107/3 in the first innings.
The Indian cricket team is in the middle of a long Test season. After the series against Bangladesh, India will next face New Zealand in a three-Test series starting on October 16. Then in November, India will Tour Australia for the Border-Gavsakar Trophy. Next year, after the IPL, India will take on England in a five-match series starting in Leeds on June 20 2025. There will be matches at Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford and The Oval.
Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja opened up on Ravichandran Ashwin's performance in the India-Bangladesh Test series and said that the 38-year-old has not received the kind of status as an all-rounder that he deserves. In the recently concluded two-match Test series, Ashwin picked 11 wickets; he was also the highest wicket-taker along with Jasprit Bumrah. With the bat, he scored 114 runs at a strike rate of 83.21 in the two-match series. Ashwin was also named the 'Player of the Series' following his stunning display against the visitors.
Sri Lankan spin bowler Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned from cricket for a year by the sport's world governing body after he pleaded guilty to a corruption charge.
Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal was all praise for India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir for the mentality shown by their side during the second Test match in Kanpur. The first three days of the match was impacted by rain and wet outfield but India came out swinging on Day 4 and their aggressive batting show paved the way for victory. India broke the record for the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Tests and on Tuesday, they bowled out Bangladesh for the second time in the match. Tamim praised the approach and grit shown by the Indian cricket team before adding that such a tactic is only possible if there if full support from the coach and the captain.
Former Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas reserved blockbuster praise for Team India stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Abbas' remarks came after India thrashed Bangladesh in a two-match Test series earlier this week. Abbas rubbished the pointless comparisons between Kohli and former Pakistan captain Babar Azam. He admitted that while Kohli scores runs in every other game, Babar, who has been going through a prolonged rough patch, should be dropped from the team. Babar stepped down as captain of Pakistan's white-ball team on Tuesday.
India's talismanic batter Virat Kohli registered another illustrious milestone to his name, as he breached the 1000 fours mark in Test cricket. Having already done so in one-day internationals, Kohli reached the 4-digit mark in the longest format too, as India defeated Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur. Virat, who has a total of 1302 fours to his name in ODI cricket, reached 1001 fours mark in Test cricket during his stay on the crease on Day 5 of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium on Tuesday.
