Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen and sixth seed Casper Ruud rallied to make the Australian Open second round on Sunday as storms caused havoc ahead of Aryna Sabalenka beginning her quest for a historic third consecutive crown. Fifth seed Zheng, last year's losing finalist, had the honour of playing the first point on centre court at the opening Grand Slam of the season against Romania's 110th-ranked Anca Todoni. Australia Pacer Jhye Richardson Decides To Undergo Another Shoulder Surgery
Australian quick Jhye Richardson has opted to undergo shoulder surgery, which will bring an end to his season, leaving him in a race against time to be fit for the Ashes. Contracted with Cricket Australia, Richardson has undergone two surgeries on his right bowling shoulder since initially dislocating it while fielding in an ODI in March 2019. Richardson's last surgery was in 2020, but since then, he has endured multiple dislocations. He dislocated his shoulder again while high-fiving a teammate in celebration of a wicket during a Sheffield Shield match in November.
Shaheen Afridi Sidelined From West Indies Series, Test Future Under Clouds
The future of Pakistan's premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in red-ball cricket has come under a cloud after he was sidelined for the two-Test series against the West Indies at home. Shaheen has now either been dropped, sidelined or “rested” for eight out of Pakistan's last 12 Tests since early 2024. The left-arm pacer with 116 wickets from 32 Tests was also not selected for the two-Test series in South Africa with the selectors giving the explanation that they wanted him fresh for the ICC Champions Trophy starting February 19.
