Former captain Graeme Smith is optimistic that South African will end its prolonged wait for an ICC trophy this year, long before they host the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2027. With the eight-team Champions Trophy beginning on February 19 and World Test Championship (WTC) final scheduled for June this year, Smith believes South Africa is on the brink of breaking their ICC trophy drought. "Hopefully, we will end that wait much before the 2027 World Cup, with the Champions Trophy and WTC final coming up but if South Africa could win a WC trophy in front of a home crowd, it would be amazing," Smith told PTI Bhasha.
Legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has picked last edition finalists, India and Pakistan favourites for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The fever of the Champions Trophy is slowly gripping fans as the tournament will return on February 19 after more than seven years. The top eight ODI sides will compete for the coveted trophy, including India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and defending champions Pakistan.
The Germany Women's Hockey Team arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar, on Monday ahead of their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 fixtures in India. Led by Co-Captains Linnea Wiedemann and Sarah Strauss, Germany will take on Spain on 15 and 16 February before facing hosts India on 21 and 22 February. Germany finished runners-up in last season's Pro League behind the Netherlands, but they have struggled for form this year. With only two draws from four matches, they currently sit seventh in the standings with three points. Having conceded 13 goals already, they will be looking to tighten their defense ahead of the crucial upcoming games.
Spain's former football federation chief Luis Rubiales gives his highly anticipated version of events on Tuesday in the trial over his forced kiss on Jenni Hermoso that sparked global outrage. The case has riveted the country since opening on February 3 and has turned Hermoso into an icon of the fight against macho culture and sexism in sport. Rubiales was forced to resign in disgrace in 2023 after kissing Hermoso on the lips following Spain's triumph at that year's Women's World Cup in Australia.
Andy Farrell wasn't happy with the line of questioning when speaking to reporters after Ireland's Autumn Nations Series loss to New Zealand, a result which brought a 19-game winning streak in Dublin to a halt.

Australia coach Andrew McDonald remains optimistic about Cooper Connolly's Test future despite a subdued debut, insisting the young batting all-rounder has plenty of time to cement his place in the team's top six. Connolly was handed a whirlwind debut in just his fifth first-class game, with selectors expecting challenging batting conditions in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. However, the pitch proved more manageable than anticipated, aside from a fiery spell on day three when Sri Lanka unleashed a devastating new-ball attack that triggered a collapse of 7-64.
