Liam Lawson Vows To Prove He Belongs In F1 After Shock Of Red Bull Axing

Liam Lawson said Thursday he was determined to prove he belongs in Formula One following what he called the "tough" surprise of being axed by Red Bull after just two races. The New Zealander was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda starting at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix following a disastrous start that saw him fail to score any points. Lawson returns to Red Bull's sister team RB to take Tsunoda's seat after previously racing 11 grands prix for them over two seasons. The 23-year-old admitted that his sudden demotion was "something I wasn't expecting so early".

Lewis Hamilton Rubbishes Claims He's Lost Faith In Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton said Thursday that suggestions that he had lost faith in Ferrari were "complete rubbish" as he looks to rebound from his Chinese Grand Prix disqualification this week in Japan. The seven-time world champion has experienced the highs and lows over his first two race weekends with Ferrari, finishing 10th in Australia before taking his maiden victory in Scuderia red at the sprint race in Shanghai. Hamilton's joy turned to despair the next day as he and teammate Charles Leclerc were both kicked out of the Chinese Grand Prix by stewards for separate technical infringements.

McLaren's Lando Norris Says It's 'Our Turn' For Success

McLaren's championship leader Lando Norris said Thursday ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix that it was "our turn" to have Formula One's best car. McLaren have been the team to beat so far this season, with Norris winning the opening Australian Grand Prix before teammate Oscar Piastri led him in a one-two finish in China. Red Bull have dominated F1 in recent years, with Max Verstappen winning the drivers' championship for the past four seasons. Britain's Norris believes McLaren are now faster and he intends to prove it again this weekend at Suzuka.

Max Verstappen Not Happy With Yuki Tsunoda-Liam Lawson Red Bull Swap

Max Verstappen confirmed Thursday he was unhappy with Red Bull's ruthless driver swap for the Japanese Grand Prix, saying his endorsement of a social media post criticising the move "speaks for itself". The four-time world champion has a new teammate at Suzuka after Yuki Tsunoda replaced the underperforming Liam Lawson two weeks into the Formula One season.  Red Bull have been criticised for not giving Lawson enough time, with former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde saying on social media that the move was "bullying, or a panic move". Verstappen put a "like" on Van der Garde's post and told reporters that it was "not a mistake". "I liked the comment, the text, so I guess it speaks for itself, right?" Verstappen said at the Suzuka Circuit,

We Made A Mistake, Says Helmut Marko About Liam Lawson's Dropping By Red Bull

Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, has admitted that the team may have "made a mistake" in their handling of Liam Lawson's promotion and subsequent demotion after just two races in the 2025 Formula 1 season. Lawson, who had been given the seat alongside Max Verstappen after Sergio Perez's exit, was dropped following disappointing performances in Australia and China. He has now been sent back to Red Bull's junior team, Racing Bulls, in a swap with Japan's Yuki Tsunoda. Speaking about the decision, Marko acknowledged that the team's approach might not have been ideal. "His performance was unfortunately not good enough, and that comes from self-confidence," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "We were worried that his confidence was so damaged that he couldn't bring his normal performance."
