"This Is A Game Of Second Innings": Ravichandran Ashwin's Clear Message After Five-Wicket Haul Against Australia

Little tweaks in technique after an underwhelming tour of Bangladesh has worked wonders for Ravichandran Ashwin, who will go to bed on Friday night "feeling a lot better" as his spells against the Australians had "more penetration". "You can go to bed feeling a lot better instead of having just three wickets in your kitty," Ashwin said after the end of second day's play in the series-deciding fourth Test. "It does feel good as you end up with good bag of wickets, even if you don't bowl sometimes, you feel good about it. I will go to bed tonight a bit early and a bit happier." Ashwin has taken 24 wickets in the series so far with an innings left to bowl, but his 6/91 in 47.2 overs will certainly go down as one of his best efforts on a flat deck, after having got a chance to ply his trade on some of the spinner-friendly conditions.

Ind vs Aus, 4th Test, Day 2: India Bundle Out Australia For 480, Post 36/0 At Stumps

Usman Khawaja's resilience found its able ally in Cameron Green's audacious flair as Australia tested India's bowling depth as well as patience to put up a commanding 480 on the second day of the fourth Test in  Ahmedabad on Friday. At stumps, Indian openers were also hardly troubled on a track that hasn't deteriorated one bit as Rohit Sharma (17 batting) and Shubman Gill (18 batting) added 36 runs in 10 overs. But to make a match out of it, onus will be on India to score quickly on day three on Saturday. The most awkward time to start an innings is during the last 10 overs of the day but Gill lofted Nathan Lyon for a six down the ground to signal his attacking intent in that short span of time.

Ravichandran Ashwin Creates History In Test Cricket, Earns Massive Praise From Sourav Ganguly

Ravichandran Ashwin added another feather to his already illustrious Test career by becoming the Indian bowler with the greatest number of five-wicket hauls at home. During Day 2 of the fourth Test match against Australia in Ahmedabad, Ashwin claimed his 26th five-wicket haul and in the process, he went past the record held previously by legendary spinner Anil Kumble. Overall, he is second in the list alongside Rangana Herath while Muttiah Muralitharan tops the list with 45 five-wicket hauls on Sri Lankan soil. This was also his 32nd five-wicket haul in total – sixth-highest in the world.

The southpaw scored 180 runs as the visitors posted a total of 480 runs before being bundled out on Day 2. Australia were reduced to 170 for 4 at one stage on the opening day of the game, but Khawaja and Cameron Green stitched 208 runs for the fifth wicket to bring the guests back in the driver's seat.

Watch: Dhoni Hits Massive Sixes In CSK Nets Ahead Of IPL 2023. Fans Cannot Keep Calm

MS Dhoni is currently in the Chennai Super Kings camp as he is preparing for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that kicks off on March 31. As the player continues to practice for the T20 event, the fans get glimpses of his batting in nets. Dhoni has already called time on his international career in 2020 and he is not active on social media, therefore the fans rarely get to see their star when he is off IPL duty. Given the player has now started training, the fans are getting sight of the wicketkeeper-batter and Chennai Super Kings are also taking well care of that.

Watch: Virat Kohli's Reaction Sums Up India's Magical DRS To Get Rid Of Usman Khawaja

Registering his name in the history books, Usman Khawaja created a mountain of runs as he hit 180 runs in the first innings of the 4th Test against India in Ahmedabad. The Australian batter frustrated Indian bowers for as many as 5 sessions before Axar Patel finally got the better of him. But, it wasn't all straightforward as the hosts had to make use of the DRS to get rid of Khawaja as the line-umpire's decision on the LBW appeal was in the favour of the Australian batter.
