The T20 series in India gain significance as it will show how the young visiting players excel in conditions which will be similar to what the team will experience in Bangladesh during next year's T20 World Cup, said England women's skipper Heather Knight. India and England are set to face off in a three-match T20 series, starting here on Wednesday. "I learned a lot about my game playing in Indian conditions, it really tests you as a cricketer, your skill level and how you do with the noise and the heat," Knight told reporters ahead of England's training session on Tuesday. "It is a really good place to accelerate development, to see how our young players cope with it. We have got a T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later on in the year (2024) so this tour is going to be valuable in terms of having similar conditions." The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh between September and October in 2024.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels young spinner Ravi Bishnoi has almost secured his place in the team for next year's T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA. With nine dismissals to his name, the 23-year-old Bishnoi was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded T20I series between India and Australia. Overall, he has picked up 34 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7.14 in 21 T20Is. Chopra hailed Bishnoi for his consistency, and labelled the youngster as a "wicket-taker".
Australia selector George Bailey came to David Warner's defence after former teammate Mitchell Johnson wrote column targetting the veteran opener. Reacting to Johnson's column on Warner, Bailey suggested that his former teammate may not be in the right mental space and shouldn't comment until he is in the same spot. However, Bailey has found himself in the firing line for his reaction. Johnson has lashed out him for questioning his mental health over criticizing Warner.

It all happened when former pace bowler Mitchell Johnson, writing for The West Australian, said that Warner's current form and his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, also known as the 'Sandpaper Gate' do not justify him getting a "hero's send-off". "As we prepare for David Warner's farewell series, can somebody please tell me why? Why does a struggling Test opener get to nominate his own retirement date? And why does a player at the centre of one of the biggest scandals in Australian cricket history warrant a hero's send-off?" Johnson wrote.
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 player auction is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on December 9. A total of 165 players will be up for bidding, out of which 56 will be capped players while 109 will be uncapped players, The list will comprise 104 Indian players and 61 overseas cricketers. The player pool will be inclusive of 15 players from associate nations. The five franchises participating in the auction - Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Royal Challengers Bangalore - have a maximum of 30 slots available, with nine spots allocated for overseas players.
The Women's Premier League will be played in the home-away format from the next edition onwards with a bigger window, most likely in February, a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed on Friday. The inaugural edition of the tournament was held here from March 4-26 across two venues in Mumbai. Earlier this month, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had told PTI that WPL will remain a five-team tournament for the next three seasons and it will be staged in the home and away format as that was "important for building a fan base".
