India women's cricket team will be squaring off against Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series on Friday in Navi Mumbai. For the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side, plenty will be at stake after a 0-3 hammering against Australia in the recently-concluded ODI series, having earlier lost a three-match T20I series to England. The historic wins in the one-off Test each against England and Australia notwithstanding, Harmanpreet's side has a lot of ground to cover in white-ball cricket to improve its dismal record against Australia. Both the teams will be putting their best forward, in order to register a thumping win.

However, the match officials refused to award a 5-run penalty to the Australian team. Cricket Australia later clarified why.
Former India opening batter Virender Sehwag is "proud" of what his ex-Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) teammate David Warner has achieved in Test cricket. Sehwag's comment came ahead of Warner's farewell Test against Pakistan, which got underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. The 37-year-old will bid adieu to Test cricket after the match at his home ground. During a interview with Cricbuzz, Sehwag was delighted that Warner was able to break most of his records, except for the strike rate.
Coco Gauff continued the ruthless defence of her Auckland Classic title on Friday with a 6-1, 6-1 trouncing of Varvara Gracheva to set up a semi-final against fellow American Emma Navarro. With rain clouds gathering, Gauff was in the mood for a swift victory over her French opponent and achieved it in 52 minutes in another ominous display ahead of the Australian Open. The world number three and US Open champion clinched the title in Auckland last year without dropping a set and is on track to repeat that feat.
