Following a 45-run defeat in the third T20I of a five-match series against New Zealand, Pakistan have now gone seven games without a win in international cricket. Since the change in captaincy, following Babar Azam's decision to step down as skipper after the World Cup, Pakistan have lost six games under different captains. While Babar lost his last game in in charge against England during the World Cup, the team suffered a series sweep against Australia, with new Test captain Shan Masood at the helm.
England's Sue Redfern is set to become the first ICC-appointed female neutral umpire to stand in a bilateral series during the upcoming WT20I between Australia and South Africa. Redfern's appointment follows the International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to appoint one neutral umpire for all ICC Women's Championship series as well as any T20I matches scheduled with them, ensuring some neutrality in running matches while also keeping in mind the long-term development of female umpires. Seven female neutral umpires will officiate across ICC Women's Championship series with match-day pay on par with those on the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.
After a gritty performance against formidable Australia, India face Uzbekistan in their second group match of the Asian Cup in Al Rayyan on Thursday, aiming to assert themselves better than what they managed in the opening game. India lost to title-contenders Australia 0-2 in the opening match on January 14 after denying the Socceroos any success for 50 minutes. The Australians were at their attacking best but Sunil Chhetri's men managed to avoid a bigger margin of defeat. The defensive compactness, especially in the first half, would be something that the Indians would like to continue against the Uzbeks, who are a bit disappointed after playing out a 0-0 draw against Syria in their opening match.
