At the world's biggest sporting event, it can be the little things that really make the difference.
Max Verstappen, who faces a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday's race, topped the times for Red Bull ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri in Friday's opening free practice at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Five days after his sweary outbursts on team radio at the Hungaroring, the series leader and three-time world champion did his talking on the track by outpacing Piastri, who claimed his maiden Formula One victory in Hungary, by 0.531 seconds. Verstappen clocked a best lap in one minute and 43.372 seconds and remained unchallenged at the front of the field throughout the session as he began his bid to end a three-race winless run by claiming his fourth consecutive Belgian triumph.
Novak Djokovic criticised Olympic entry rules after a one-sided victory over Matthew Ebden in the opening round at a rainy Roland Garros.
PARIS — Novak Djokovic opened his bid for a first Olympic gold medal with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at Roland Garros that could set up a second-round matchup with longtime rival Rafael Nadal.
PARIS : Poland's Iga Swiatek launched her bid for Olympic gold with a 6-2 7-5 win over battling Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the opening round of the singles on Saturday.
India's top singles player Sumit Nagal will begin his Paris Olympics campaign against French Moutet Corentin, who he had beaten in April and could run into formidable Australian world number six Alex di Minaur in the second round if he wins the opener. Nagal, ranked 80th in the world, shares a 2-2 head-to-head record with Moutet, who is placed 12 places above him in the ATP singles chart. If Nagal can clear the first round, he might face Wimbledon quarterfinalist Di Minaur in the second round. Di Minaur withdrew from the last-eight Wimbledon clash against Novak Djokovic due to a hip injury.
